Abigail Disney, Sheila Nevins & Extra To Seem At New York Girls In Movie & Tv Digital Summit – Deadline
Abigail Disney and Sheila Nevins are among the notable speakers to appear at a documentary-themed edition of the New York Women in Film & Television Creative Workforce Summit.
The event, which will take place virtually from October 20-23, will include keynote speakers, panels and screenings. According to NYWIFT’s announcement, the goal is to “develop forward-looking strategies to bring about change and mobilize support and leadership for the future.”
Other notable attendees include Laverne Berry, a producer and former NYWIFT President who is the protagonist of Capturing the Flag, a documentary about combating voter suppression; and Marcia Smith, president of Firelight Media, who has sponsored films such as Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool.

Maria Torres-Springer, Vice President of US Programs for the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice, will introduce the summit.
This year’s second edition of the summit marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment
Give women the right to vote. It will also recognize the contributions of women documentary filmmakers and their efforts to bring about social, cultural and economic change in history. The Black Lives Matter movement and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic will also be major topics.
