The eagerly awaited season opener for two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva could be delayed again as the skater is said to be eliminated from the second stage of the Cup of Russia due to a spinal injury.

Last month, the 20-year-old withdrew from the season curtain in Syzran, citing health problems.

Her participation in the second stage of the Cup of Russia, which is due to take place next weekend in Moscow, remains in doubt, as the skater’s annoying spine is still bothering her.

“Medvedeva has problems with her spine. At the moment it’s not clear whether she can compete in Moscow, ”a source familiar with the situation told TASS.

The President of Russia’s Figure Skating Federation Alexander Gorshkov has not confirmed Medvedeva’s withdrawal.

He stressed that she would continue to perform in Moscow.

In September, after a two-year hiatus during which she moved to Canada to train under Brian Orser, the skater made a sensational return to her trainer Eteri Tutberidze.

The Olympic silver medalist thanked her Canadian coach for the time together and expressed the hope that her renewed collaboration with Tutberidze will help improve her results.
