Barca boss Ronald Koeman dismisses dissent from French star Antoine Griezmann — RT Sport Information

New Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has dropped complaints from Antoine Griezmann after the French international suggested to the media that the Dutchman didn’t know how to best use him in his starting XI.

The 29-year-old Griezmann has started all three La Liga games in Barcelona on the right side of a trio of attackers, but was put in a central role during the international break by France coach Didier Deschamps, where he won the 2-1 win on Wednesday against met Croatia.

After the game, the world champion spoke to the media about how he was enjoying the freedom he was given in the French line-up because Deschamps “played me in my best position”.

The Catalan press subsequently used the comments as a reprimand for Koeman’s tactics, but spoke at a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s Getafe game on Saturday night that he had “no problem” with Griezmann’s comments – but also reminded the player of who it is select the team?

“I spoke to Antoine [on Thursday] and I told him that I’m looking for the best for the team and I think he’s the best on the right for us, “Koeman told ESPN.

“He can play in three positions. He could also play as No. 10 or No. 9. When I was the Dutch coach, he was playing on the right in a game against France.

“I have no problem with Antoine. I can only play a # 9, a # 10, a # 7, etc. I don’t play players out of position. Griezmann can play far inside on his left foot. If he has another position that he likes more, so it is, but we can’t have 10 players in the No. 10 role.

“I decide what is best for the team. The coach is responsible and the players have to be at their best when they play.”

Griezmann, a big money importer from rival Atletico Madrid in summer 2019, hasn’t found a network for Barcelona this season. Koeman has picked him out for criticism after missing two goalscoring opportunities in Barca’s draw with Sevilla earlier this month.

Koeman has reportedly impressed several members of the Barcelona squad, including Lionel Messi, since taking command of the club following Quique Setien’s departure. His demand for efforts on the training ground is said to have earned him the nickname “Sergeant Koeman”.
