Two-time world figure skating champion Evgenia Medvedeva is being hospitalized for a medical exam after the recurrence of the severe spinal injury that forced her to withdraw from the upcoming Cup of Russia.

According to the General Director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Kogan, the skater has already consulted doctors who confirmed that the old injury was worsening.

The 20-year-old, who withdrew from the season opening of the Cup of Russia in Syzran, will miss her second competition in a row. Your participation in the ISU Grand Prix in Moscow remains in doubt.

In September, Olympic silver medalist Medvedeva returned to her longtime coach Eteri Tutberidze, who had led her to two world titles and two Olympic medals.

The skater has broken up with Canadian specialist Brian Orser, who trained her for two seasons, and thanked his team for a job well done.

Her collaboration with Orser has not been as productive as Medvedeva’s previous results, as the World Cup bronze was the only international award given under his tutelage.

Tutberidze, who had given her skater a warm welcome, said she would try to return Medvedeva to her previous leadership positions. However, the skater’s health issues have made serious changes to her training schedule and threaten to undermine the entire season for the celebrity athlete.
