Rangers star Kemar Roofe sends social media wild with OUTRAGEOUS aim from inside his personal half (VIDEO) — RT Sport Information
Rangers star Kemar Roofe brought social media into crisis when he scored a guaranteed Puskas competitor with an incredible hit from his own half during the Europa League match against Standard Liege.
With the game in stoppage time and the Scottish visitors’ 1-0 win thanks to James Tavernier’s first-half penalty, Roofe showed no ambition to play it safe as he won the ball deep in his own half.
Instead, the 27-year-old, who only came on as a substitute for Steven Gerrard’s men in the 74th minute, danced past three opposing players before triggering a long-distance drive from his own half that sailed all the way through The Liege’s Head Goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart goes into the net.
The breathtaking strike set social media on fire with no lack of puns that “the roof was on fire”.
Some said the strike was a certified Puskas contender for goal of the year, while others said it was the best they’d ever seen.
The spectacular goal gave the Scottish team their first victory in Europa League Group D, which also included Poland’s Lech Poznan and Portuguese giant Benfica.
