Russia to attraction Vladimir Putin Olympic ban — RT Sport Information

Senior Russian officials plan to challenge the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) ruling banning President Putin from participating in major sporting events, including the Olympic Games, for two years.

The Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee first deputy chairman Vladimir Dzhabarov described the CAS ruling as “outrageous lawlessness” and said Russia would try to appeal Putin’s ban.

“This decision is an outrageous lawlessness, it violates all possible boundaries. Of course we will appeal against this ban. We won’t let it go unnoticed or neglected, ”said Dzhabarov.

The Kremlin also responded to the CAS ruling, regretting the decision to restrict Putin’s access to the Olympics, adding that the participation of Russian athletes in the Games is more important than banning officials.

“We regret CAS’s decision… But by and large, as our sports managers mentioned, the main thing is that our athletes are allowed to attend future international sporting events. This will help them maintain their international qualifications and physical condition, which is of great importance, ”said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

On Thursday, CAS announced that Russia’s international sports ban had been shortened from four to two years on appeal. However, the decision still means that the Russian flag and anthem will be absent from the next two editions of the Olympic Games: Tokyo in the summer of 2021, and the Beijing Winter Games in February 2022.

According to the decision, Russian government officials and officials will be banned from participating in events such as the Olympic Games and World Championships for the period covered by the suspension.
